オスカーに輝いたハリウッドの脚本家が、スランプに陥り大学でシナリオを教えることに。
そこで教える生徒たちの情熱に触れるにつれ、彼の心の中でも何かが変わり始める。
共演には、アカデミー賞助演女優賞を受賞したマリサ・トメイ。そして、『セッション』での鬼教師役で全世界の話題をさらい、本年度のアカデミー助演男優賞したJ・K・シモンズ。
また、音楽を担当するのは、『Re:LIFE〜リライフ〜』の監督マーク・ローレンスの息子、クラウド・ローレンス。クラウドが弾くジャジーなピアノやグールーヴィーなハモンド・オルガン、エレクトリック・ピアノのメロディーが心地よく響く、ブルース、ジャズ、ファンクテイストを感じさせるポップでメロディアスなサウンドに仕上がった。
